OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
Eligibility and Entry
1. Every angler participating in the Competition must be registered (“Entrant”) and agrees to these Official Rules and Regulations.
2. The Competition is open to anglers of all ages and genders.
3. All registrations will be accepted at the discretion of the Committee.
4. Registrations must be received by no later than 17:00 on Friday, 14th August 2026.
5. An Entrant is required to present their Competition entry ticket to the appointed Kingfisher Weighmaster (“Weighmaster”) upon submission of their fish entry.
Rules
6. All participants must comply with the current South African Marine Recreational Fishing Regulations, including, but not limited to, possession of a valid recreational fishing permit where required, permitted fishing methods, bag limits, size limits, and any closed areas or other applicable restrictions.
7. Only Shad (Pomatomus saltatrix) will be eligible.
8. Only fish personally caught by an Entrant may be submitted for weigh-in. Fish caught by non-registered persons may not be weighed in by, or on behalf of, a registered entrant.
9. Fishing is permitted from shore or any legally operated vessel.
10. Boundaries are from Kosi Bay to Port Edward.
Fish Submission and Weigh-in
11. Strictly NO FROZEN fish will be accepted. Fish must be presented whole and intact for inspection and weigh-in.
12. Any Entrant found to have tampered with a fish submitted for weigh-in in any manner will be disqualified.
13. Any Entrant found to have tampered with a fish submitted for weigh-in in any manner will be disqualified and may be prohibited from entering future Kingfisher competitions.
14. The Weighmaster as proxy for the Committee, reserves the right:
a. To inspect any fish before accepting it for weigh-in;
b. To refuse any fish that, in its opinion, does not comply with these rules.
15. All Shad must be weighed and measured at an official weigh station within any of the 8 Kingfisher branches.
16. All fish are to be weighed and measured by the Weighmaster only.
17. The official recorded weight and length shall be that entered on the official Kingfisher weigh sheet and this will be signed off by the Weighmaster and the Entrant.
Judging
18. Winners will be determined by the heaviest eligible Shad.
19. In the event of a tie, the first fish weighed in shall be declared the winner.
20. Weigh stations operate during the trading hours of the relevant Kingfisher retail store. Fish must be presented for weigh-in before the applicable closing time.
Competition Administration
21. The Competition commences at 05:00 on Saturday, 15th August 2026, and closes at 17:00 on Monday, 31st August 2026. No fish will be accepted after the closing time.
22. Awards ceremony will be held Wednesday, 2nd September 2026 (Time to be announced), at The Kingfisher Durban branch – 53 Hunter Street.
23. The Committee’s decision is final.
24. An Entrant qualifying for multiple prize positions will receive only the highest placing prize.
Conduct and Liability
25. Entrants are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and sportsmanlike manner at all times. The Committee reserves the right to disqualify any Entrant whose behaviour is deemed abusive, fraudulent, or likely to bring the Competition into disrepute.
26. Entrants enter entirely at their own risk, are responsible for their own safety and must adhere to any and all legal and safety regulations as may be applicable.
27. Violations of these Competition rules may result in disqualification of the Entrant from the Competition and/or be banned from all future Kingfisher competitions.
Privacy
28. By entering the Competition, Entrants consent to The Kingfisher collecting and processing their personal information for the Competition administration in accordance with POPIA.
29. Entrants further consent to the use of their names, photographs and videos by Kingfisher and/or Foton for promotional and marketing purposes relating to the Competition.
General
30. The Committee reserves the right to amend these Rules and Regulations where reasonably necessary. Any amendments will be communicated through Kingfisher’s official communication channels.
