ROCK & SURF
Terry Nel reports from His Port Edward store TackleNet “Although last weeks fishing was quiet with only shad coming out, Tuesday the 12th was pandemonium at Splash Rock and anglers using live shad as bait caught 4 Garrick, a Kingfish of 25.4kg and a Kob of 32kg”.
Mark from The Tackle Box Shelly Beach gave Us the following information “Shepstone angling Club has taken the initiative to reach out to the youth and underprivileged kids and held a youth day on the Sandspits Beach on Saturday. Unfortunately the weather was not very good, however this did not deter these keen young anglers and approximately 50 youngsters turned up. The kids were treated to a wonderful day of fishing clinics, casting competitions and a fishing competition with some great prizes given to all the kids at the end of the day. Well done Shepstone Angling club.
This week-end is the next Postal Round of the NCAU so all eyes and ears will be on the Transkei coast where some good fishing was had prior to the bad weather. Anglers fishing down south are still reporting plenty of sardine activity south of Port st Johns. Port st Johns itself is still producing some fine Grunter and Kob fishing, with some good sized fish being taken on the Rapala.
At the time of writing this report, some good news came in of some good sized Tuna being caught on Protea, with three boats making an afternoon launch. Looks like the Tuna have returned. Let’s hope so.
The commercial anglers are still getting good catches of Geelbeck and Dagga Salmon at night when conditions allow”.
